Group Medical & Dental Insurance

Afloat personnel may elect medical and dental group insurance coverage with Higman Barge Lines. Monthly cost for medical coverage for employees only is $35. Spousal coverage is $160 per month. Family coverage is $225 per month. Beginning the third year of continuous employment premium costs are reduced by 50%, after five years of continuous employment, costs are reduced to zero. Additional premiums may apply to adult dependents up to the age of 26.

Higman pays 100% of the dental premiums for afloat personnel. Employees may elect coverage for dependents at the monthly cost of $30 for spouse, $35 for children only, and $65 for family.

Group Life Insurance

The Company provides $25,000 in Life Insurance to each employee and an additional $25,000 Accidental Death & Dismemberment policy. The Company also provides $10,000 in Life Insurance for the employee's spouse, $5000 in Life Insurance for each child.

Pension Plan and 401K Plan

The Company has a Defined Benefits Pension Plan and a 401K Safe Harbor Plan. Each employee is fully vested after five years of continuous employment. This plan is fully paid by the Company.

Longevity Pay/Bonus Pay

Higman rewards afloat personnel with a Longevity / Bonus Pay Program recognizing their seniority tenure with the Company beginning after the employee has six months of continuous employment.

Licensing Upgrades and Renewals

The Company pays or reimbursed eligible employees for training at company approved schools in Texas and Louisiana to facilitate license upgrades and renewals.
